One of the biggest combat updates in the game’s history is coming for free – and it raises new questions for PvP servers.

Keen Software House has revealed Warfare 3 for Space Engineers – in the studio’s own words, one of the most significant combat updates it has ever made. The gameplay update is free. In addition, there is an optional Warfare 3 Pack (a separate Steam DLC) with cosmetic blocks that you can already wishlist on Steam.

🛡️ The key new features in the free update

• Guided missiles and heavy torpedoes: missiles are fast and track their targets, while torpedoes are slower but hit harder.
• Countermeasure flares: decoys that distract incoming missiles and torpedoes, disrupt their guidance and give you a chance to evade.
• EMP weaponry: the “Prototech Microwave Emitter” can temporarily knock out grids within range – for example a fleeing ship moments before it jumps, or a hostile boarding crew.
• Jump Detection: a new PvP system that reveals the exit point of large or heavy ships after a long-distance jump to nearby players. An escape can quickly turn into a pursuit.

🎨 The Warfare 3 Pack

According to Steam, the separate pack contains over 30 new blocks. They are cosmetic and decorative and do not affect gameplay balance. Revealed so far are, among others, the Artillery Turret Type II, Jump Seat, Fighter Cockpit Type II, Warhead Type II, Decorative Intake Blocks and Laser Antenna Type II. Steam does not list a price yet.

⚙️ What does this mean for PvP and multiplayer servers?

Keen calls Jump Detection a “major new PvP system”. It is likely to shake up existing PvP and pirate-server metas: “jump in, grab the loot, jump out” gets riskier as soon as heavy grids are involved. Together with EMP weapons and flares, fights become more tactical. Keen has not published any specific server settings yet.

📅 When is Warfare 3 coming?

Keen Software House has not announced a fixed release date yet. The official roadmap lists Warfare 3 for November/December 2026. Until then, the studio is publishing weekly block previews (“Incoming Transmission”) throughout October.
