After spending decades playing the game, I’ve learned that this game is as much about creativity as it is about efficiency. I still remember my early days, fumbling with basic crop farms and chasing animals around for food.
That’s when I discovered the true potential of advanced farming. Setting up efficient farms for resources like iron, gold, or even ender pearls felt like unlocking a secret level of Minecraft.
So, we will discuss all the essential farms you can set up in the game, whether it’s an Iron Golem farm that churns out ingots like clockwork or a Villager Breeder, the backbone of your trading empire.

Here is everything you need to know.
One of the most important resources in the game is iron, to craft weapons, tools, and countless other crafting recipes. You can get iron by mining underground, but it isn’t the most efficient method for the long term.
Instead, you can create a farm of Iron Golems. Villagers naturally spawn them when they feel threatened, and you can harness this mechanic to create a constant flow of iron ingots.
This might sound complicated, but it gets easier once you understand how it works. You simply have to follow proper steps that meet the right conditions to attract Iron Golems. Here is what you need to understand.
Villagers spawn Iron Golems when they detect hostile mobs or other threats nearby. Then, you can place the villagers in a controlled environment and introduce a permanent threat to force consistent spawning of golems. These golems are directed into a killing chamber where they drop iron ingots and poppies upon death.
Here is a list of items you will need for the setup: 3+ Villagers (per spawning platform), 1 Zombie (named to prevent despawning), Beds (3 per set of villagers), Glass panes or fences (to trap the villagers), Water buckets (to direct Golems), Lava bucket or campfires (for killing chamber), Hoppers and chests (to collect drops).
A step-by-step guide will help you set up a farm from scratch.
1. Go to a village and look for a large, flat surface to set up the farm. Then, make a 5x5 hole on the surface.
2. Make the hole at least 2-5 blocks deep to prevent other mobs from interfering.
3. Place 5 beds and add 5 villagers inside the hole.
4. Add at least two torches on either wall to prevent hostile mobs from spawning at night.
5. Above the ground, place 2 chests and 2 hoppers to collect the dropped iron from the golems automatically.
6. Now, next to the villager platform, create a small enclosure for a zombie. Use a name tag on the zombie to prevent it from despawning.
7. You can add 5 trapdoors in front of the villagers to ensure they can see the Zombie but do not reach them.
8. Close the enclosure above the villagers using trapdoors.
9. Next, create a 7x7 wall on the top of the surface about 2 blocks high.
10. Place water at the edges to direct Iron Golems toward a central hole leading to the killing chamber.
11. At the end of the water flow, create a 2x2 pit and place a lava block in the pit to kill the Golems.
12. Lastly, ensure there are no solid blocks within 8 blocks of the villager platform; this prevents Golems from spawning outside the intended area.
Wait for the nighttime and lure a zombie on your farm to its designated area. You can use the trapdoor or completely shut off the entrance to keep the Zombie in its place.
You have now set up a proper farm. Within seconds, you will soon see the Iron Golems spawning. Check the hoopers and chest for iron.
Another farm that you can set up is for Sugarcane. The major reason you will need a ton of sugarcane is for crafting paper and rockets. There are other benefits, such as sugar production for brewing and crafting items like cakes.
All the materials you will need are Sugarcane, Grass/Dirt/Sand blocks for planting, water buckets to hydrate, pistons for harvesting, hoppers and chests to collect harvested sugarcane, etc.
Let’s check out the steps you can follow to set up an automatic sugarcane farm.
1. Remove 5 blocks in a row and one block in front of the row to create a base and place the collection chest in the single block.
2. Add 5 hoppers to create a system to the remaining five blocks. Then, place mud blocks over each of them.
3. Create an area around the mud and the system to hold the water. Add a water source over it, which will hold it for an infinite time period.
4. Add sugarcane over the mud and put stone blocks behind them over the water source.
5. Then, put pistons on top of each of these blocks and add five more blocks behind the pistons.
6. Now, put five observers over the pistons. Then, create a line of Redstone dust connecting all the pistons and observers.
7. To ensure that the sugarcane does not escape when cut after harvesting, create a wall on either side of your setup close to the sugarcane.
8. Lastly, add glass blocks in front of your setup as an enclosure.
And that is all. You can also check out multiple YouTube tutorials for the above steps that are easily available to follow and create an automated sugarcane farm.
All the above steps to set up the sugarcane farm can also be used to set up a bamboo farm. Simply replace the sugarcane with bamboo, and you will be ready.
Building a gold farm can be top-tier when discussing advanced farming. Gold farms provide a steady supply of gold ingots and nuggets for crafting items like golden apples, powered rails, and netherite gear upgrades.
The entire process involves tons of resources to build an automated farm, such as Obsidian for the Nether portal, Magma Blocks, Leaves, Turtle eggs, Trap Doors, Hopper Minecart System, Chest, Looting III sword, etc.
To create a proper farm, you can check out multiple tutorials online since it needs proper steps and precision. Once you have a proper look at the steps, you can follow along. Multiple videos show automated and manual farms that require killing the Zombie Piglins yourself.
Here are a few tips for maximum efficiency while farming:
1. Looting III Enchantment: Increases gold drops if you manually kill mobs.
2. Use XP Grinders: Combine with an XP farm for dual benefits.
3. Reduce Lag: Farms with high spawn rates can cause lag. Optimize by limiting mob accumulation and item overflow.
You will need tons of XP throughout the game, and Enderman Farm is your best choice. Spending an hour building the farm is easier than collecting XP each day in multiple other ways.
This farm will help you farm experience points (XP) and Ender Pearls in Minecraft. It takes advantage of the high spawn rates of Endermen in the End Dimension and their hostility towards Endermites.
Let’s see how you can build this farm and all the necessary resources.
You will need building blocks such as cobblestones or glass, leaves, Name tags, Hoppers, chests, carpet, water buckets, etc.
1. Head to the End Dimension and move far away from it, possibly the end of the island.
2. Now, lay down around 128 leave blocks or more—to prevent Endermen from spawning elsewhere.
3. Here, create a 9x9 platform using cobblestone or any other building blocks, leaving a 3x3 area in between. Add double chests and hoppers in the 3x3 leftover area.
4. Place the carpet on the top of the Hoppers. Then, build another 9x9 platform 2 blocks above this platform, leaving the middle part empty.
5. Lay down the double carpet on the 2-block radius of the platform, keeping the same middle part empty.
6. Start building a square-shaped platform over the carpet area, leaving the middle area empty. Keep building more of these till you reach a height of Y=44.
7. Now, build a 33x33 platform around the trap for Endermen to spawn. You can see the Endermen spawning on it as soon as you build it. Ensure the platform is made of spawnable blocks like end stone or cobblestone.
8. Build a 3-block platform and add a carpet to it. Place a rail and add Enderpearls on it to spawn an Endermite. Add a nametag to it to prevent it from despawning.
9. Trap the Endermite in a minecart on a central block above the platform. Use fences or walls to keep the Endermite inaccessible to Endermen while still attracting them.
And that's it: Remove the temp blocks and wait as the Endermen keep spawning and going into the trap/kill chamber. Here, you can then start killing them. Furthermore, to make the killing more efficient, ensure your sword has a Sweeping Edge enchantment and Looting III to boost the number of Ender Pearls dropped.
This is a bit complicated, so follow the steps more carefully. You can always refer to different tutorials on the web for more visual steps.
Raid or Villager farms are super important since they help to generate Emeralds, Totems of Undying, Enchanted Books, Crossbows, and other loot by repeatedly triggering and defeating village raids.
This farm takes advantage of Minecraft's raid mechanics, where waves of Pillagers, Evokers, and Ravagers attack a village when a player with the Bad Omen effect enters a village area.
To prevent raid interference, you can build your farm on a flat surface or above the ocean biome to ensure it is as far from any village as possible. Make sure to have multiple chests to collect all the loot. Apply the Looting III enchantment on the sword to increase Emerald and Totem drops.
Another farm you can build is a Village Breeder, where villagers will breed and create more villagers for trading halls and iron farms.
In this farm, Two villagers are placed inside a designated farm area, and they must have enough food to become "willing" to breed. Furthermore, ensure that the farm provides a safe space for breeding. If the farm is appropriately set up and meets the requirements, baby villagers are automatically funneled into a collection area.
To ensure the farm works efficiently, ensure there are enough beds for the villagers. Also, the platform has a constant food supply so that they do not run out of food in the middle of breeding.
Lastly, in this guide, we have the Cobblestone farm, which is fairly easy to make, and once created, it can give you a ton of cobblestone within an hour.
You will simply need resources such as a Water bucket, Lava, solid blocks, a Pickaxe, pistons, Observers, Redstone Dust, Hoppers, and Chests. That’s it.
Now, you can either build a simple manual farm that only requires a few resources or a fully automatic farm with pistons and observers for a constant supply of stones. To boost the efficiency of the farm, use Efficiency V enchantment on the Pickaxe.
Well, that’s it. There are multiple other advanced farms similar to the above, you can build such as Slime Farm, Mushroom farm, Witch warm, etc, that will help you get more loot and contribute to increasing your overall XP in the game.
