Let’s check out everything you need to know.

Why Breed Pals?

If you have been playing Palworld for quite some time now, you might have heard the buzz around Breeding pals. Well, breeding is exactly what you think it is. You take two Pals (male and female) and create offspring that have some of their traits combined together.

This sounds exceptional; however, the process can be a bit tedious. But the real question is, why would you choose to go through this? Is it really needed?

Let’s break it down and check out a more detailed breakdown of why breeding Pals is so valuable:

1. Customization

The major reason so many gamers have chosen to set up a proper breeding base is for customization. You can breed some amazingly powerful pals with higher stats and legendary traits.

For example, if you breed Sweepa + Grizzbolt, you will get Jormuntide. There are tons of different breeding combinations you can try for exceptional-quality pals. If you are new to this, it's all a matter of experimentation, or you can try other methods that we will soon discuss below.

2. Endgame Allies

Now, you need some high-end Pals often to fight off enemies and bosses. Generally, Pals can be captured on different parts of the map. However, there is an option to breed them instead that gives exceptional combat abilities to dominate battles and overcome challenges.

Other than this, let’s agree that it's super fun to actually be able to create more Pals by combining other Pals. You can also breed rare or valuable Pals to trade or sell for profit in the long run.

Overall, the entire process adds more depth to the game. Eventually, any game becomes monotonous, and this will keep you hooked for longer

Prerequisites for Breeding in Palworld

Before we proceed with breeding pals, you will need to consider a few important aspects.

There are two crucial parts to the process. First, you will need a Breeding Farm where the pals will be placed for breeding, and Cakes act as a catalyst here. Let’s learn about them more below and how you can actually get these.

1. Breeding Farm

As mentioned above, you will need a breeding farm to raise the pals. This is a crucial component of the process, providing a controlled environment for the Pals to mate and produce offspring.

To construct the farm, you will need the following:

  1. Reach Level 19: This level unlocks the Breeding Farm recipe in the Technology tab.
  2. Materials Required: Collect 100 wood, 200 stone, and 50 fiber.
  3. Construction: Place the Breeding Farm blueprint in your base at a suitable location and provide the necessary materials.

Now, this hardly takes time; you just need the necessary materials. You can start off with 3-4 such farms, which should be enough.

However, as you progress further, you can always have 12-15 of these and create a massive breeding base.

The breeding pairs can give 20 eggs in one go, and once you collect them, they continue the process. With the farm, you also get the Breeding Farm Chest, where you will insert Cakes, an essential ingredient for breeding.

2. Cake Preparation

Cakes might sound bizarre, but they are one of the most crucial parts of the breeding process. They act as a catalyst, encouraging the breeding of Pals and influencing the outcome of the offspring.

To bake the cake, you will need 5 cups of Flour, 8 Red Berries, 7 cups of Milk, 8 Eggs, and 2 cups of Honey..

Next, you will have to collect them. This is where things might get a bit tricky since it will take quite some time to gather these elements.

  1. Flour: To obtain this, you can set up a farming field and lay down wheat seeds. When they are fully grown, you can use a mill to convert the crops into flour.

Note: Apart from these, you can add a few things as your farming essentials for a faster process. Go to the Technology tree and unlock Silo (to improve the planting efficiency), Flower Bed (to increase the gathering speed of Pals), Water Fountain (to improve water efficiency of Pals), and lastly, Flame Cauldron (to improve Kindling efficiency of Pals).
  2. Red Berries: Similarly, you can harvest berries by setting up a farm in your base. You can also get a water-type and a planting-type Pal in your base. They will do the rest.

Otherwise, you can simply add Caprity to your base, and they will drop berries around for you. I suggest going with the farming process since it is much easier.
  3. Milk: You will need Mozzarina, aka the milk maker, for milk. You can build a ranch for them and place them inside. They will continue to drop milk all day long, and you can collect it later.
  4. Eggs: Similar to Milk, you can build a separate ranch for eggs. The best pal for this is Chikipi. They are an excellent source of eggs, and for beginners, you will just need two to get all the ingredients you need.
  5. Honey: To do this, you can catch a pal such as Beegarde that will produce honey for you. Simply add them to your base, and thats it. It might be difficult to catch them since they are kind of self-detailed, but you can use some good spheres to capture them for better probability.

Crafting Cake

Once you have collected all the ingredients, it’s time to craft the cake. The trick here is that once you have learned the art of automation, crafting cakes will be as easy as farming wheat or just anything.

If you are on a high enough level in the Tech Tree, you can grab an electric kitchen to cook. Or else, for beginners, you can simply unlock the very basic Cooking Pot from Level 17.

For gamers on higher levels, you will need Pals such as Jormuntide Ignis to set up and run the Electric Kitchen. This will give you just enough fire to keep cooking and is an exceptional Pal for breeding as well. So get as many as you can.

Otherwise, the cooking pot is just enough to get you started. Simply place it in your base, add a fire-type Pal to it to speed up the cooking process, and you are good to go.

Important Tip: Cakes do get rotten if left in the inventory for a long time. However, if you simply add it to the Breeding Farm Chest beside the Breeding Farm, it will never rot.

Perfect Base Setup for Breeding

Another important aspect of the entire breeding process is having a proper base setup only for this. Many gamers might simply encapsulate everything in a single farm, making everything very complicated.

Hence, if you have been thinking of starting breeding Pals, set up a proper base. Here are some key elements to take care of:

1. Location

For a breeding base, you will need a flat surface. There are tons of spots all over the Palworld map and you can choose anyone from among them and set up the base.

However, some of my favorite spots are at locations -357, -73. You can find it on the map. It's basically between two temperature zones, so you can incubate both warm and cold eggs with little care.

Other than this you can go to the Tower in the ancient city ruins, near the Astral Mountains. Another one is at this location -476, -82. Well, these are just a few of the many locations you can give a go.

It's important to remember that you do not select a location that can be easily raided or has extreme temperatures.

2. Setting Up Farms and Incubators

Now that we have the perfect location to set up the base, you need to set everything up very carefully. Building a near-perfect base will take time, so follow along.

To place the Breeding Farms, you need at least 3-4 in a single base. It's not recommended to place them at the edges of the base ring. The Pals are most likely to bug out and can make the base not operational at times.

Make sure to have ample space between your ranches and the breeding farm. Pals tend to get depressed and drained out pretty quickly if they do not have space to work.

To hatch the eggs you will be collecting, you need Incubators. If your server can handle them, you can set up as many as you need. Build the base more vertically and separate the incubators to give them more space for hatching.

Warm eggs might need furnaces to keep them warm at night. Similarly, cool eggs will need coolers during the day. Make sure you have them set up in the base.

3. Keep Your Pals Happy and Sane

Apart from the basic setup, you need to add some extra items to your base to keep your Pals sane and happy.

You might have often seen notifications at the top-right where the Pals look depressed and drained out. Well, for this, you can build beds for resting, feed boxes with necessary food to keep them fed, hot springs, fountains, and many other such elements that will allow Pals to relax and rest often.

We recommend adding Cotton Candy to the Feed Box. It does not expire, so you may not have to constantly keep track of the food. Also, make sure the Feed box is closer to the Breeding Farms.

The Pals tend to often bug out due to hunger and stop the breeding process in between, which is not good. You can even place the beds near the ranches and farms so that they do not have to move much.

Overall, you need to keep everything a bit organized so that Pals have space to move around and also do not have to work much to get to things.

How To Breed A Perfect Pal- Complete Breakdown

We have built the base as well now, so all that is left is the breeding process. Now, this is the easiest part. Let’s check them out below.

1. Identify Possible Breeding Pairs

There is no specific way to know which two parents will create what offspring. However, after trying out all possible combinations, some genius gamers have created a proper Breeding calculator Sheet to help you with it.

Let’s select our end goal first. For example, if we want to create a Blazehowl with specific Passive Skills, you will need to provide the parents with at least 2 of these skills to go against the odds and hope you are able to create the right Blazehowl.

Simply refer to the sheet to select the right parent and check out everything you need to know.

2. Search The Palbox for Traits

Next, once you have referred the sheet, it's best to check out the Palbox with the candidates you have selected, check their passive skills, and see if that is what you can look for.

Also, make sure one parent is male and the other female. Now, pick them up and throw them into the Breeding Farm. Let them complete the process and create the eggs.

Wait For the Eggs and Incubate

Once the eggs are produced, you can collect them from the farm. Add all the eggs to the incubators for hatching.

The hatching process will take time. Until then, you can refer to the sheet to check out other possible pairs for breeding.

4. Try More Till You Get The Desired Traits

Keep hatching more eggs until you get the desired traits from the offspring. Even if it's just one or two of the traits you want, it's good enough. Don’t give up!

Keep hatching more eggs until you get the desired traits from the offspring. Even if it's just one or two of the traits you want, it's good enough. Don’t give up! This will be time-consuming since the breeding process is still a mystery, and the distribution of the traits is mostly random. You need to keep hatching more eggs.

5. Pal Condenser

You wouldn’t want to keep those tons of Blazehowl in the base that you just hatched with the hope of getting the perfect one.

So, your base also needs a Pal Condenser now so that you can throw away all the other ones you do not need to rank up your perfect Pal. This is super helpful in the breeding process so as not to cramp up the base and also rank up the level of the Pals.

Breeding Strategies

Hopefully, you have now understood how breeding works. Don’t worry if you still haven’t since we all are figuring it out as well. There are two major ways to actually know what offspring the two parents will produce. Here is how you can know.

1. Breeding Calculators

Now, there are multiple online breeding calculators that can estimate the potential traits of your offspring based on the parents' characteristics.

Some calculators may allow you to customize certain parameters, such as the desired skill or stat levels. However, we have mentioned a more advanced and detailed calculator collected in Sheets. That is something we discovered while learning more about the game, and it is much better than any other random calculator.

2. Experimentation

Otherwise, you can always experiment. It is always fun to try out two random pals and create something incredible.

Furthermore, keep track of your breeding experiments to identify patterns and trends that can inform future breeding strategies.

Additional Trips and Tricks On Breeding

Well, that’s all we have about Breeding and Pals. But wait! There are a few more tips and tricks before you start the breeding process yourself.

  1. In your server settings, you can set the incubation time to zero, which will speed up the hatching process.
  2. Buy Milk and Honey from the merchants. You can obviously produce them in your ranches but they are time-consuming. Hence, it's better to simply buy them.
  3. Jormuntide is good, but because of its size, it gets stuck easily in the base. The best is to use a smaller Pan for watering and cooking the cake using a fire-type Pal.
  4. The Pal with only two passive might be the ideal parent for breeding. They are most likely to pass on both skills to the offspring.
  5. Don’t try breeding Legendary Pals. It does not work. There is hardly any chance that breeding two legend pals or one of the parents being a legend will pass on the same legend traits.
