At E3, some
Minecraft news have been revealed.
Arguably the biggest one is that Minecraft will enable
cross-platform play with the
Better Together Update:
Regardless of whether you're playing Minecraft on an
Xbox One,
Nintendo Switch,
Windows 10 PC,
iOS or
Android phones, or a
Virtual Reality device, you'll be able to play with other players on the same servers. Unfortunately, PS4 players won't be able to play with players from other systems for the time being.
Another functionality that will be implemented with the
Better Together Update is a
Server Browser in the Minecraft Start menu. At launch, 4 official servers will be displayed in the browser, which players can log into directly.
With the
Better Together Update, Minecraft will also receive a graphical upgrade: Support for
4K HDR graphics with enhanced lighting, shadows, and water effects will be implemented for all platforms receiving the Better Together Update.
Xbox One X and
high-end PC owners will finally also get the
Super Duper Graphics Pack. This DLC will include a series of additional graphics improvements, requiring corresponding computing power, in addition to the graphics enhancements of the Better Together Update, including dynamic shadows, light shining through leaves, grass movements, new textures, directional lighting, or edge highlighting.
