When Abiotic Factor launched into Early Access, it immediately stood out. It’s not just about staying alive; it’s about surviving as a team of scientists trapped in a facility overrun by experiments gone wrong. You build, explore, fight, and figure things out together. Now that the developers have finally released the 1.0 update, it’s better than ever.
The biggest change? Crossplay.
With the launch of version 1.0, Abiotic Factor now supports full crossplay across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. That means no matter where your friends are playing, you can all jump into the same game, build a base, and fight off anomalies together.

But that’s just scratching the surface. Cold Fusion doesn’t just bring crossplay, it’s a massive content drop. It introduces a brand-new zone, smarter enemies, a weapon upgrade system, new storage options, buildable office cubicles, and numerous quality-of-life improvements.
So, let’s check out each of these new features below in this guide.
Crossplay means you can play with friends on different platforms, whether they’re using PC (Steam), PC (Microsoft Store / Game Pass), PlayStation 5, or Xbox Series X/S. Everyone can now join the same game sessions and play together in real time, regardless of the platform they’re on.
Mostly, the crossplay feature is enabled on all the devices running on the 1.0 version. Alternatively, you can choose to enable or disable it as per your preference from the settings menu.
To start playing, open the game and enter the Settings menu. Here, make sure to enable Crossplay and enjoy playing with friends across all platforms. You can also check out the steps below to join a server.
If you are looking to simply join a game instead of hosting one, click on Enter the Facility and choose the Join a Game option. To select a particular server to join, enter the name or IP address, or any other info. Here, you need to enter a password or code to join that server.
And that is it. The game automatically handles cross-platform syncing and connection.
Here is a quick summary of crossplay works:
You can also play Abiotic Factor on your dedicated servers as long as all your devices or consoles are updated to 1.0.
Yes, there is a small limitation that you need to be aware of when using the crossplay function. If you're running a modded version of the game on PC, console players won’t be able to join your server, and vice versa.
This is standard across most crossplay titles and helps ensure platform parity. But for vanilla gameplay, everything works smoothly out of the box.
Apart from Crossplay, the game also features a new zone known as the Residence Sector. This is an entirely new lore added to the game with more enemies and a lot more missions to complete.
After you have completed the Praetorium, the Hasta Tria will open a portal for you to reach the Office Sector Level 2. Here, you must open the double door before you get on the train for the Residence, or you will be stuck and have to start from the Praetorium again.
Once you click the forward button on the Tram, it will take you to the Residence Sector. Everything here is chilly and frozen in ice. You will come across the deadly robots and other creatures, so make sure you are prepared with warming armor and the right weapons.
There are several objectives in the Residence Sector to work through, one of which is “Suppress the Storm”. While you make your way through different structures in this sector, you will come across frozen tornadoes that might harm you, so run away from them.
In the rooms here, you will encounter a tougher version of the Peccary, which isn’t that difficult to kill. Then, you can access the GATE Laptop to learn more about Krause. To complete the above objective, you need three items, which are Heart of Corruption, Transuranic Superalloy, and a Leyak Essence.
Once you are done with this mission, another mission will unlock, which is “Find a Way Into the Ice Wall”. Along the way, you will come across a yeti-type creature, which a Deatomizer can easily kill. There are several of these, so make sure you have enough ammo. To break the wall, you need to craft a new weapon called a Flamethrower. For this, you need a Thermocell, Electro Thrower, Lab Burner, and Lodestone Fragment.
Next, after you break the wall, another objective unlocks, i.e., Access the Dark Lens. This is a pretty interesting structure where the Shopping District is completely shattered and floating around.
As the name itself suggests, you need to access the Dark Lens in this area and then follow the instructions and path likewise. There is so much more to discover and navigate in this sector.
The developers have also added some new weapons, gears, and armor to the 1.0 update. Here is a list you might want to check.
Apart from new upgrades and additions, there are a few adjustments made to the exciting functions as well.
Similarly, there have been some changes in weapons and shields, too. Here are a few important ones mentioned below.
These are only a few of the many changes brought to the game. They might be minor, but they do affect the overall gameplay for you.
As mentioned earlier, the multiplayer features have come a long way since the release of early access. Now, the Server Browser tells you when crossplay is off, and if you try to join a server that needs it, you get a proper pop-up instead of just wondering why it won’t connect.
Warnings and notices have been polished to better explain what’s going on, failed searches no longer just say “Reason unknown,” and the overall UI is cleaner. The Player Management menu in the Escape Menu now has its own Admin panel tab, complete with a Force World Save button.
Dedicated Server owners get more control, too. If you own DLC and are an admin, your content is automatically made available to the server without you having to stay online. LAN-only mode now applies correctly, and warnings about “Extremely Modified” settings only appear when they’re actually relevant.
This update brings a big pass on story flow and in-game lore presentation. A key narrative event in the Security Sector now happens before the locked gate, where it always should have been, and the related emails and journal entries have been updated to match.
The World Select screen now shows a snapshot of your save’s progress (for saves made after this update), which also appears in the Server Browser and updates as the story moves forward. The Compendium and in-game documents have also been tightened up. Entries that weren’t triggering before now work correctly, some have new images, and damage type displays are cleaner.
NPC behavior has seen a lot of polish. Paired characters now finish their conversation before delivering Compendium or Journal entries, backup systems ensure dialogue won’t get stuck if an area unloads mid-conversation, and some characters have updated appearances or hair.
Bullet accuracy has been fixed, so shots now actually hit where the laser dot is aimed, correcting an old bug from the Dark Energy update. The bullets also deal slightly less damage to Body Shields, 90% instead of 100%, as part of broader shield changes.
Shields now come in Light, Medium, and Heavy tiers, blocking damage of their own class or below while letting higher-tier hits partially pass through. Perfectly blocking an attack now grants Fortitude XP.
A number of weapons and gear have been adjusted. The Energy Pistol fires more responsively, the Quill Spear has been given a substantial damage boost, and the Pipe Pistol no longer has a fire delay. Null Grenades are now more effective, fully resetting Body Shield cooldowns instead of just reducing their health.
The Heater Shield’s chance to ignite attackers has been raised from 10% to 30%, while the Deatomizer now loses durability faster due to a less-than-helpful “upgrade.
Lastly, we have some changes in how you deal with everything daily in the game. One of the biggest improvements for base builders is that any furniture you’ve placed will now be packaged instead of being destroyed into scrap when it’s broken.
There’s also more convenience for multiplayer: the Escape Menu now has a “Copy to Clipboard” button for your lobby code, hotbar slots show their numbers in the radial menu, and the Journal can display where certain resources come from; whether that’s traders, Quantum Exchangers, or Portal Worlds, for any you’ve already discovered.
Movement and damage have been made fairer, too. You can no longer die from short falls; your health will stay at 1, though you’ll still take injuries like broken bones, and overall fall damage has been slightly reduced.
Well, these aren’t the only changes that you will see in the game. There is so much more to explore once you start playing from the ground up.
It’s not just about wrapping up the story with the Residence Sector, though that alone gives a satisfying sense of closure; it’s the sheer number of quality-of-life upgrades, combat tweaks, and progression fixes that make the whole experience feel smoother and more polished.
If you have never played this game before, there is no better time than now. Since crossplay is now enabled, it becomes even better for those who have been longing to play it with their friends across the world.
