On 25th June, Palworld rolled out the Tides of Terraria (v0.6.0) update for everyone. If you had been feeling that Palworld became way too monotonous, well, the developers have brought in their biggest crossover update ever. It isn’t just new skins and other cosmetics; you have a new set of pals, boss fights, new weapons, and so much more.

For those unfamiliar, Terraria is a 2D sandbox adventure game released in 2011, best described as a pixel-art survival RPG. It’s known for its deep crafting systems, punishing bosses, gear progression, and world-building.

The idea for this crossover began with a simple DM. Pocketpair (the developers behind Palworld) reached out to Andrew “Redigit” Spinks, the creator of Terraria, asking if they’d be open to a collaboration. And here we are.

So, let’s break down everything you will see in this new update.

Seven New Islands

This new update expands the entire Palworld map with a lot more locations to explore and new pals to catch. There are seven new islands, each with its biome, resource pools, and exclusive Pals, making them essential for players progressing through the mid to late game.

Unlike early-game regions, these islands are designed with specialized resource farming, dungeon entry points, and Pal diversity in mind. Here’s a breakdown of what each island brings to the table:

1. Sealed Realm of Terraria

The Sealed Realm of Terraria is a special dungeon introduced in the Tides of Terraria update. You can travel to the Fisherman’s Point Fast Travel point and then use a water-based or a flying pal to reach the Sealed Realm of Terraria dungeon. The coordinates of this Dungeon are -422, -796.

The moment you enter the dungeon, you will come across new pals in collab with Terraria added to the update, such as the Green Slime, Blue Slime, Red Slime, Purple Slime, Rainbow Slime, Illuminant Slime, Demon Eye (often referred to as Dark Eye), Cave Bat, Illuminant Bat, and Enchanted Sword (a floating enemy-type helper).

In addition to these, you also have some newly added grass-type pals, such as Herbil. Moreover, you will find a list of new items dropped by different pals and chests in this Dungeon, such as Hallowed Bars, Life Crystals, and other items that will increase your overall health.

There are some new schematics you can find here to craft items like Hallowed Headgear, Hallowed Plate Mail, Hallowed Helmet, Hallowed Hood, Excalibur, Terraprisma, Nightglow Schematics, and Celestial Sigil.

Finally, you will come across a Level 45 boss named Eye of Cthulhu, which can be captured and defeated easily if you have the right weapon. We will talk about all the pals later.

2. Eternal Summer Isle

You will find this small island just beside the Sealed Realm of Terraria. Once you are done exploring the dungeon, you can check out this stunning island. Although it might look pretty tiny, it features some brand-new pals here, such as Finsider, Herbil, and Palumba.

A few chests are lying about with some decent loot to collect, and as mentioned, you can catch the pals or kill them to collect the drops. Visually, there are a lot of trees everywhere, a waterfall, and huge shells. And that is pretty much it.

3. Frostbitten Isle

Once you are done exploring the Sealed Realm of Terraria, you can then travel to the next island, known as the Frostbitten Isle. This is located to the south of the Sea Breeze Archipelago, accessible via the Eagle Statue at Castaway Beach. The coordinates of this island are -94, -942.

It is the first ice island that is completely covered in snow and ice. You can find a massive Frostallion statue sitting right in the middle. There are some unique pals here, such as Frostplume, Icelyn, and Jelliete. These are all ice-type pals and can be used mainly for cooling in your base.

Finally, you might get some chests as well with some decent loot and a lot of pure Quartz to mine. There isn’t much to do or find here overall, which is a bit disappointing.

4. Sunlit Isle

Another beautiful tropical island like the Summer Isle. It looks very similar to the former island, but there is no dungeon here like the Sealed Realm of Terraria. To reach here, you can choose the Fast Travel from either the Plateau of Beginnings or Marsh Island. The coordinates to this island are 386, -454.

If you are someone who loves to build and set up multiple bases, this island might be the perfect spot since you will find six oil nodes here. The pals found here are the same as those on Summer Isle, which are all grass-type pals.

The new update has also brought in new NPCs and a few missions given by them on the side. You can see one NPC fishing on this island. Although the rewards for such missions aren’t the best, it's still fun.

5. Isle of Decayed Treasures

Next up, we have the Isle of Decayed Treasures. This is yet another category of island introduced in the Terraria update. It has a somewhat shipwreck theme where you will find a broken and worn-down ship in the middle of the island.

To reach here, you can use the Fast Travel point from the Eastern Wild Island and use your pals to get there. The coordinates to this island are 609, -171.

The new pals you will find here are named Gloopie and Turtacle; these are water-type pals. You will also find a lot of treasure chests here with loot such as Gold Coins, Schematics, if you are lucky, and much more.

The entire atmosphere of this island evokes treasure hunting with gold coins in small holes in the wall, ship wrecks, chests, and more.

6. Oasis Isle

This has the same format or structure as the Tropical Islands, a lot of trees, shells, a waterfall, and six oil nodes. You can reach here by using the Fast Travel point at the PIDF Tower Entrance, and then use your pals to swim or fly to the island. Or if you have already unlocked the Arena Entrance fast travel, you can use this and travel likewise.

The coordinates to the island are 891, 193. You can find a new pal here, along with the other grass-types such as Braloha. And everything is pretty much the same as mentioned above.

7. Isle of the Glacial Core

Next up, we have the Isle of the Glacial Core, which has the same format and structure as the other ice and snow-based island named Frostbitten Isle. You can reach here by fast travelling to the PAL Genetic Research Unit Tower Entrance or the Duneshelter. Then, use your water or flying pals to reach the new island. The coordinates are 145, 649.

Here, you will find the Sealed Realm of Glacial Core. Once you enter the dungeon, you will encounter a Level 60 Neptilius, a legendary boss pal, which you can eventually capture. There are some other pals too, such as Whalaska, Munchill, and Polapup; these are ice-based pals.

8. Phantom Isle

The last island in the list is the Phantom Isle. This falls into the category of the shipwreck island theme. You can reach here by fast travelling to Ruined Fortress City and then get on your flying pal. The coordinates for this island are -887, -175.

This island has the same structure and theme as other shipwreck islands. You will find a ruined ship with a lot of treasure chests. Likewise, there are some new pals here as well, such as Jellroy and Ghangler. These are both water and dark-type pals.

All The New Pals

Now that we know all about the new islands and everything they have to offer, let's check out all the pals added to the pal deck and some boss pals as well.

List of Terraria Mobs

Apart from the new pals, you will also find some new mobs as part of the Terraria-specific update. They aren’t officially a part of the pal deck since they are considered to be not from this world; they can all be found in the Sealed Realm of Terraria Dungeon.

Let’s look at the list below.

  1. Eye of Cthulhu (Boss Pal, Dark‑type)
  2. Enchanted Sword (Neutral floating weapon‑type)
  3. Demon Eye
  4. Cave Bat
  5. Illuminant Bat
  6. Green Slime
  7. Blue Slime
  8. Red Slime
  9. Purple Slime
  10. Illuminant Slime
  11. Rainbow Slime

Each of these can be captured, including the boss pal. All the slimes are the same, with different colors, and you can ride on all of them. Likewise, the best mob here is the bat; when captured, it follows around with you and picks up time for you.

Another interesting fact here is that while using the Enchanted Sword, Dark Pals drop more items when defeated. Each of these mobs drops Hallowed Bar eventually, along with other items that can help craft other Terraria-inspired weapons and tools.

Fishing System

Palworld finally allows you to go fishing for some pals in the ocean and other water bodies. It’s unlocked through the new Technology Tree, specifically the Life Technology category. After unlocking it, craft the rod at your Workbench using basic materials like wood and fiber.

Not only will you be catching some amazing pals, but also there are a ton of rewards that you cannot miss out on. There are three levels of fishing gear that you can unlock from the tech tree.

  1. Beginner Fishing Set: You can unlock it at Level 15, and it costs two technology points. To craft this, you will need 10 Paldium Fragments, 3 Pal Fluids, 8 Ingots, and 8 Fiber. With this set, you also get a Simple Bait recipe (2 Pal Fluids + 4 Berries + 2 Flour).
  1. Intermediate Fishing Rod (Cattiva): This can be unlocked at Level 29. It has a better catching chance and a wider minigame bar. To craft this, you need 30 Paldium Fragments, 10 High Quality Pal Oil, 10 Cement, and 30 Fiber.
  1. Advanced Fishing Rod (Pengullet): This fishing rod can be unlocked at Level 45 using three technology points. It has the best bar width and durability, ideal for Master-tier fishing spots. To craft this, you will need 70 Paldium Fragments, 20 High Quality Pal Oil, 15 Pal Metal Ingots, and 30 Carbon Fiber.

Let’s also talk about baits. They are another super important component in the fishing mechanism.

  1. Simple Bait: This comes as a package with the Beginner Fishing Set at Level 15. It can be crafted using 2 Pal Fluids + 4 Berries + 2 Flour.
  1. High Quality Bait: You can unlock this at Level 22 by using one tech point. To craft this, you need 3 Pal Fluids + 4 Tomatoes + 3 Flour.
  1. Deluxe Bait: It can be unlocked at Level 38 by spending two Tech Points. You can use 4 high-quality pal oil, 4 onions, 3 carrots, and 4 Flour to craft this bait.
  1. Alluring Bait: Lastly, we have the Alluring Bait. It can be unlocked at Level 52 with two tech points. Not only can you catch the pals more easily than all the other baits, but it also increases the chances of getting extra loot. It can be crafted using 10 High Quality Pal Oil + 1 Cavern Mushroom + 3 Carrot + 5 Flour.

Now, the moment you have the basic fishing rod, you can get going with fishing. There are multiple fishing spots spread across the Palpagos island. Once you reach a spot, you will see the type of spot you are currently in.

From here, you simply have to look for the pal and throw the bait at it. As soon as the yellow marker appears in the water, the mini-game starts. The game is simple: keep the fishing rod on the green bar, and within seconds, you will catch the pal.

If you see a sparkly thing on top of the pal in the water, it indicates that it is a rare kind of pal. The better fishing set rod you use with a good bait, the higher the chances of catching such fish easily.

Base Fishing

You can also set up a fishing pond at your base and catch fish with much ease. You can unlock the first pond at level 31, which allows you to catch small and medium-sized pals. While the large fishing pond can be unlocked at Level 55, where you can catch large pals.

To catch the pals:

  1. Choose a target pal shadow from the list.
  2. Then, assign a Pal with Handiwork skills to catch the pals from the pond.
  3. Add a proper bait in the pond as we did while fishing in the sea.

The pal you have assigned for fishing will work on a timer, and once they are done catching the fish/pals, they will place everything in a cooler placed beside the pond. You will catch the fish, but also a lot of loot along with it.

Salvaging Mechanics

This is pretty easy to understand and work on. Apart from fishing, you also have the opportunity ot salvage items from the ocean. These give you some rare loot such as Coralum Ore, Pal Souls, and crafting components.

For salvaging, you will simply need to mount on a water-type pal and have a fishing rod with you. This is intended for beginner-level ocean salvage.

As you move further and explore other parts of the ocean around Sakurajima Island, Feybreak Mountains, etc., you will need a Powerful Fishing Magnet. This is more of an endgame item since it can only be unlocked at Level 61.

To collect these, simply roam around the sea and look for the debris in the water. Interact with it as instructed on the screen, and you will have it. This is much easier than fishing.

Pal Trust

You can now create a better bond with your pals. The new update has introduced a Pal Trust mechanism or level where you can increase the trust level with the pals you have in your team.

As a Pal’s trust in you increases, it gains stat boosts, making it stronger in battle and more useful overall. The real question is, how does this metric system work?

  • Each Pal has a Trust Level, from 0 (no trust) to 10 (maximum trust).
  • Higher trust levels lead to improved stats, such as: Increased Attack, Higher Defense, and possibly other performance-related boosts (like stamina, speed, or skill use effectiveness).
  • Interestingly, weaker Pals get a larger benefit from Trust than stronger ones. This means even early-game Pals can become powerful with high trust, opening up more flexibility for team-building.

You can check the bonus received through this Pal Trust system right under the Stats section of each pal.

How To Grow Your Pal’s Trust?

There are multiple ways you can do this. Let’s check out a few of them below.

1. Keep Them in Your Party: Choose the pals you want to increase the Trust factor with. Then, ensure they are in your active team. This will slowly but eventually increase its trust level. Furthermore, you don’t need to use them in fights; simply keeping them in the party is enough.

2. Kinship Peaches: To help players increase trust stats with their pals, the developers introduced a new item known as Kinship Peaches. These are special consumables that instantly boost a Pal’s trust level.

To collect these, you can visit Bounty Officer NPCs (like the one in Small Settlement) and open the chests found in these places. Mostly, the gold chests will have this item that you can easily get across the map. Each peach will give you at least a single trust level. Hence, the more you collect, the easier it will be to reach a level 10 in the Trust index for every pal.

3. Interact With Pals: This is pretty basic but works incredibly well. Simply spending some time with your pals and interacting with them will increase the trust levels. For example, you can pet them, feed them by hand, let them sleep near you, and use their Partner Skill.

The reason this feature is important is that you can use this to level up your early game and weaker pals, too. This helps pal reach their full potential much faster than they used to and will make combat with boss pals easier.

Pal Surgery Table

This is one of the biggest changes brought in to the new Tides of Terraria update. The Pal Surgery Table is a powerful new workstation that gives you full control over your Pal's passive skills and even lets you change their gender.

To unlock this new item, you must reach Level 36. To craft this, you need 30 Refined Ingots and 20 High-Quality Cloth.

How Passive Skill Implantation Works

Each Pal can hold up to 4 passive skills. These are traits that affect stats like attack, defense, work speed, hunger, etc.

Using the Surgery Table, you can:

  • Add passive skills into empty slots.
  • Overwrite existing passive skills with new ones.

You’ll need Implant Modules, which are one-time purchases that unlock the ability to implant specific passives. After that, you can implant the skill onto any Pal for a Gold cost.

How to Transfer Passive Skills Using Pal Surgery Table

To transfer the skills, you will use the Implant Modules as mentioned above. These can be obtained from:

  • Bounty Officer NPCs (in towns like Small Settlement): Here, you can get Implants with Musclehead, Burly Body, and Artisan.
  • Arena Vendors (using Battle Tickets): Here, you will get Implants with Serenity, Infinite Stamina, and Runner.
  • All the other types of Implants come with the surgery table itself.

Once you have acquired these implants, let’s check out how you can transfer or replace the passive skills into the pals.

Step 1: Make sure the pals you want to perform the surgery on are in your party, not just in the Palbox. Only Pals in your party can be modified.

Step 2: Go to the Pal Surgery table and select the Pal from your party.

Step 3: Choose the unlocked passive skill you want to implant.

Step 4: Pick the slot. You can choose either any empty one or overwrite an existing skill

Step 5: Pay the Gold cost and click on edit for the surgery.

It's also important to note here that these implants is that they are one-time purchases; once bought, you can use them forever.

How To Change Pal’s Gender

You can also change your pal’s gender using this surgery table. For this, you will need an essential item called Pal Reverser.

The Pal Reverser can be bought from Arena Vendors using Battle Tickets and occasionally rewarded from Bounty Quests.

Here are the steps you can follow to change the gender:

  1. Place the pals in your party. Only Pals in your active party can undergo surgery.
  2. Go to the Pal Surgery table and select the Gender Change option.
  3. Choose the pal you want to change the gender of and then click on Edit.
  4. This process will use one Pal Reverser.

You can repeat this for all your pals if you want. But make sure you have enough Pal Reverser in your inventory. This new feature is essentially useful in Breeding when you often do not get the right gender.

Pal Arena

You already know about the Arena, where you can battle with other players, i.e., the PvP battle. However, the new Tides of Terraria update has introduced some changes and brought in solo mode or PvE battles as well.

The moment you reach the Arena, you will see an Arena Merchant at the gate and a Palbox as well. This new Arena Merchant lets you trade your battle tickets for different items such as Implants, Schematics, Whistles, new Fruits, Pal Reverser, and more.

To get battle tickets, you need to win the fight against the AI trainer and its pals. The moment you enter the Arena, there are two new options added, which are Challenge mode and Spectator mode (only for multiplayer).

Overall, the fights here are pretty easy to win, and you can collect the battle tickets fairly easily. You can then take these tickets to the Merchant and exchange them for other goods.

Moon Lord: New Raid Boss

The Tides of Terraria update has brought in a brand new raid boss called the Moon Lord. To summon this boss, you need to unlock the summoning altar at Level 32.

Another component that you will need is a Celestial Sigil. These can be obtained directly from the dungeon, or you can craft them by obtaining the Celestial Sigil Schematic along with 100 Hallowed Bars. Both of these can be found in the Sealed Realm of Terraria dungeon.

Once you have these, you can go to any primitive bench and craft the sigil. Now, place the altar and put the sigil in the middle. The Moon Lord will be summoned immediately.

At first, it looks incredibly scary but powerful. The Moon Lord is at Level 50, so it may not be that difficult to defeat it. You simply have to keep shooting and attacking the three-eyed balls. One each in its hands and one on its forehead. Once you have destroyed these, you have to shoot at its chest.

If you have powerful weapons, it will be easier. But if you are still earlier in the game, it might take you a few cycles. Once defeated, you might have the chance to get the Legendary Meowmere weapon.

Final Thoughts

Well, that is all for now. There is so much more in the new update, such as Pal whistles, some new skins, missions, NPCs, and more structures.

It's safe to say that it was not disappointing. You will love every part of it, especially the new Sealed Realm of Terraria Dungeon that gives you new mobs, schematics, and a whole new experience.
