Minecraft offers a range of weapons, starting right from the early game to fighting the toughest fight. However, not all of them are created equal; some might barely be able to scratch the surface, while some might be enough for a single-strike win against the boss fights.

Each weapon plays a role in the game, so we have created this guide that will give you a brief idea about all of them and how you can use them with particular enchantments. Let’s check them out below, including the worst ones in the front and the best ones in the last.
Many would debate the existence of this particular weapon on our list, but we are starting with the worst ones, and Eggs are pretty useless. They deal with zero damage in the Java edition and only offer knockback in Bedrock.
If you have these in your inventory early in the game, you can use them to disrupt enemy movement during any PvP fights. Another downfall of eggs is that if you use too many of these at your enemy, you might simply end up spawning chicks.
Next, we have the Snowballs. Although these are equally worse than the eggs, if you throw them at the Blaze, they might cause more damage than normal. Hence, it's best to use them only in fighting with Blaze, and you might actually be able to kill them with seven snowballs.
This is by far the worst weapon I have ever come across. Yes, it's worse than a fist. However, players do not technically use this as a weapon since it is used in farming. Golden Hoe can be used only 32 times, after which it breaks completely.
It does give one damage per hit, and the only “advantage” is faster attack speed than a Wooden Hoe, which doesn’t matter much in combat. You can enchant this with Sharpness for much more effective damage.
This is your first line of defense when you enter a Minecraft world. You can use it to punch mobs for food, and since there are no durability issues with this, it is much better than using a Hoe. It only gives one damage, which is not enough, and you must upgrade to something better.
Next up, we have Anvil. If you properly set up this particular weapon, it can deal significant damage if dropped from a good height.
In fact, it can kill any player in a single hit. While dropping an anvil on someone in a trap might be fun, its impracticality in regular combat situations means it’s not something you’ll rely on when you’re out in the open fighting mobs or other players.
This is one of our personal favorites, and you might find multiple gamers putting it in their top five. Lava Bucket may not be a traditional weapon type, but it does much damage. You can use it in PvP, Nether fights, and against slow-moving mobs like zombies and skeletons.
This weapon deals in 4 damage (2 hearts) per second, and the fire lasts for about 8 seconds, which isn’t the best, but it is good enough to fight different mobs. Another huge advantage of using Lava Bucket is that it does not break down even after being used as often as you want.
You might be wondering why we have mentioned Beds as a weapon in Minecraft. If you are new here, you may not be aware that beds explode in the Nether world if you attempt to sleep on them. This is a high-risk, high-reward tactic often used in PvP and speed runs against the Ender Dragon.
The explosion resembles TNT and can cause significant damage to anything nearby. As mentioned above, this works exceptionally well in an Enter Dragon fight and makes it easier to defeat only if you follow the right strategy.
Similarly, if you're fighting a player in the Nether or End, you can place a bed near them and right-click to explode it. The explosion will deal massive damage and can instantly kill unarmored or lightly armored players.
Now, Ender Pearls do not specifically deserve a spot as a weapon, but they are really good during combat. They are not meant for direct combat but offer quick movement and teleportation and can be used to chase enemies, escape danger, or reposition mid-fight.
For example, throw an Ender Pearl behind your enemy, and you will instantly teleport. This will give you leverage, and you can attack them from different angles. Not only this, but it also acts as a defense weapon that will help you escape any brutal fights, especially when you are playing the hard game mode.
It is one of the best and most destructive weapons you will find in Minecraft. However, it requires setup and an ignition source, making it more of a trap or ambush weapon than a direct combat tool.
This weapon can be used in multiple ways, such as setting up a TNT Trap, Cannons, a Dispenser, farming mobs, etc. Here is an example: Place TNT under a wooden pressure plate, and when an enemy steps on it, BOOM!
It has a blast radius of about five blocks and can deal massive damage to all the mobs in the area. TNTs are purely situational and aren't great for direct combat because of their delay and high risk to the user.
Pickaxes are designed as mining tools for breaking stone, ores, and other blocks. However, if you do not have any other weapon with you, this seems to be a good alternative. Pickaxes may not be as good as swords or axes since they lack the high damage output or special combat advantages.
For combat, your best bet has to be the Netherite Pickaxe. They deal with about six damages, similar to the iron sword in the Bedrock addition. It has exceptional durability that gives 2000+ uses and a decent attack speed as well. Similarly, you can also use the Diamond Pickaxe, which deals five damage (2.5 hearts) and swings fast. But they are not the best option if you have an axe or sword.
Besides this, the iron/stone/wooden pickaxe is no good in combat. They should be best left for mining only since they hardly do any damage. It's best to craft an iron sword instead.
Now, let’s talk about the best enchantments you can apply on your pickaxe for enchanted performance. Here is a list:
CrossBow is one of the most powerful ranged weapons ever introduced in Minecraft. It is a key weapon used in PvP battles and deals significant damage. There are multiple ways to use this weapon.
It can hold a loaded arrow, meaning you can fire instantly when needed, which is great for ambushing enemies. Similarly, Crossbows can fire fireworks, which deal massive AoE damage (explosion damage scales based on the amount of gunpowder used). Another game-changing ability of this weapon is that it can shoot three arrows in one shot, increasing the spread of damage.
Now, to increase the efficiency and power of this weapon, you can add in several enchantments, such as:
Besides all the above features and advantages, CrossBow has several disadvantages that make it so far in this list. Even using the Quick Charge enchantment, it reloads slower than a Bow. Similarly, Multishot uses extra arrows (but only consumes one,) and the Fireworks require gunpowder, making them quite expensive.
Mace was introduced in a recent update in Minecraft 1.21. Unlike swords and axes, the mace relies on fall distance to amplify its damage, making it one of the most powerful weapons when used correctly.
To obtain this weapon, you will need two components, i.e., a Breeze Rod, which the Breeze drops, a new mob found in Trial Chambers, and a Heavy Core found inside Ominous Vaults, which requires an Ominous Trial Key to open.
The Mace deals more damage the further you fall before attacking—a Smash Attack. It is considered the most powerful and deadly in the game and can deal a ton of damage. However, if you use a simple hit attack, it deals about 3 hearts damage only.
Furthermore, this weapon negates any fall damage if you hit an enemy when landing. You can also use some enchantments to make this weapon a lot more fun:
This is more of a situational weapon that gives you the maximum damage depending on the height. There is a high chance, too, that you might die while jumping from the height if you do not fall directly on an enemy. Mace can also be paired with other elements to enhance its power.
For example, use Elytra to fly high and then deactivate flight by stopping mid-air (letting yourself fall). Now, swing the Mace before landing on an enemy for massive damage. Also, this will give you no fall damage if you land a Smash Attack.
Similarly, you can use a riptide-enchanted Trident for a massive aerial launch that will cause insane Smash Attack damage.
The axe is our fourth-best weapon in Minecraft and is great for critical hits and one-shot bursts but less effective for quick combos.
It is important to note here that Axes perform quite differently in both Java and Bedrock additions of the game. In Java Edition, axes have greater damage but slower attack speed than swords; In Bedrock Edition, axes deal less damage than swords and attack at the same speed as swords, making them worse for combat than in Java.
For maximum damage, you should aim for the Netherite Axe, which is considered the best for PvP fights. It deals damage of 5 hearts with every hit, which is exceptional, and by using the right set of enchantments, you can even take this to boss fights.
Here are some of the enchantments that you can use:
A lot of players prefer to use an axe as their primary weapon for the obvious reason. However, they swing much slower than swords; hence, swords deal more damage over time, even if axes hit harder per swing.
Trident is one of the most underrated weapons in Minecraft and pretty unique, too. It can be used as both melee and ranged weapon, depending on the type of enemy you are fighting. There are so many ways you can use this weapon.
You will be surprised to know that Trident can deal immensely high melee damage, almost as high as a diamond sword. In the same way, it can also be thrown like a ranged weapon at enemies. If you acquire this, you are basically Aquaman!
However, a Trident alone may not be your best bet against any kind of enemy, especially if you are using it as a ranged weapon. Instead, you need some enchantment with it to make the most of it.
Here are some:
You can also use the Channeling enchantment to summon lightning when thrown during a thunderstorm.
Although this weapon is overpowered, there is a huge disadvantage that comes with it. You cannot craft Trident; the only way to get it is by killing Drowned, and they only have an 8.5% drop rate. Likewise, it isn’t as strong as the bow or sword, considering multiple circumstances.
Bow has been in the game for quite a while now, and it is one of the best-ranged weapons, without a doubt. Almost every player would agree that it is the best out there. This weapon allows you to hit enemies from a safe distance, making it perfect for taking down hostile mobs or players before they reach you.
This weapon is used not only for regular mobs but also for fighting boss mobs such as Ender Dragon and Wither since both bosses fly, and it is easier to fight from a distance. You can also fire Tipped Arrows with the Bow, which apply poison, slowness, weakness, or harm to enemies.
Some of the enchantments you can use with Bow are:
You can also use tipped arrows with the bow, making them much more effective in fighting battles. When you shoot a Tipped Arrow with a Bow, the target gets hit with both the arrow damage and the potion effect. The effect lasts for 1/8th of the duration of the original potion.
Similarly, bows may not be your ideal weapon for close-range weapons. You will have to quickly switch to a Sword or an Axe for a better chance at winning.
The sword is undoubtedly the best weapon you can have in this game. We saved the best for the last. It’s fast, reliable, and versatile, making it an excellent choice for PvE (fighting mobs) and PvP (player combat).
The attacks are much faster and more precise than an axe, meaning they can deal more damage per second (DPS) even though axes have higher base damage. Furthermore, only Swords have the Sweeping Edge enchantment, allowing one swing to hit multiple enemies simultaneously. This is great for fighting groups of mobs like zombie hordes.
Well, of course, the best variant is Netherite Sword, which deals with four hearts per hit and has the highest durability, too. However, you can also go with a Diamond Sword, which deals with exceptional damage, i.e., 3.5 hearts, before upgrading to a Netherite Sword.
Some of the best enchantments for a Sword apart from Unbreaking and Mending are:
Other than this, you can use the Iron Sword in your early game since they are good enough to kill some hostile mobs and are much more durable than a Wooden or Stone Sword.
These are all the weapons and their variants you can acquire in the game. In the comment section below, let us know which one you use the most and which is your favorite for both ranged and close combat.
